  Just when you thought Canyons couldn’t get any more creative, we’ve turned the river into yet another vessel for artistic expression! Join us this summer as we team up with two critically acclaimed authors for a truly unique whitewater adventure. Tracy Ross is the author of, most recently, The Source of All Things, a memoir detailing her childhood abuse and salvation from it through immersion in wilderness, which People Magazine called “an extraordinary journey of anguish and redemption.” Sundeen, whose books include Car Camping, The Making of Toro, and the New York Times bestselling North by Northwest, has a new book coming out in March called The Man Who Quit Money. Both authors write for scads of publications, including, between them, Outside, Backpacker, Skiing, Bicycling, National Geographic Adventure, and The New York Times. And both are bringing their passion and expertise for magazine writing and personal essay to the Main Salmon River this summer, on a six-day trip aimed at giving writers the tools to get their work published. In addition to all the amazing elements of a “normal” Canyons adventure, this trip includes in-depth “floating classroom”-style discussions about the tools of great writing, detailed instruction in both personal essay and adventure journalism, guided writing exercises, group and one-on-one critique, and targeted instruction on the entire magazine writing process, from penning assignment-winning pitches to effective and time-saving research strategies to turning your raw material into award-quality narrative.   This trip is designed for artist and art lovers to capture the beauty and inspiration of the beautiful Middle Fork of the Salmon. Supporting Idaho Rivers United each participant will be asked to donate one peice of their work. This is a new trip for us and we are inviting all who are interested in plein aire work. Featuring the talents of ANDY EVANSEN we will be offering some watercolor workshops along the scenic banks of the Middle Fork.

AND we will be featuring the extraordinary culinary skills of Lisa Whisnant, aka WHIZZY, our senior guide here at Canyons. Whizzy owns her own restaurant in the winter, BLUE MOON YURT, here in McCall, and she'll knock your socks off with her creative menus.   Anna LeVesque is back again this year to offer her amazing yoga practice combined with her skills as a world champion kayaker. Designed for women only, this is a great opportunity to further your paddling skills for female kayakers (and duckiers) or to just ride in a raft and share stories. Anna offers womens trips around the world and will rejuvenate you with her beautiful spirit as an accomplished yogi as well as paddler.
