Idaho Whitewater mapMain Salmon

They don't call it the "River of No Return" without cause. This National Wild and Scenic River once proved daunting for all. Neither the Shoshone Indians nor the Lewis and Clark Expedition could descend the Main Salmon. It claimed the lives of explorers and prospectors. Yet today, thousands of modern adventurers return with tales of thrilling adventure.

The Main is big western water at its best: It's so wide that we can choose between a wild ride down one side or a more conservative line on the other.

Moose, black bear, bighorn sheep, and golden eagle are often spotted in the canyon. You'll also see the occasional jet boat that supplies the historical ranches along the river with mail, food, and other necessities.

The Main Salmon is simply awesome, whether you're in the midst of a rapid or sitting in camp staring up at one of the deepest canyons in North America.
